Show Your Renovation Sketch And Take A Loan

Adding more space is one of the top ways to increase the value of your home. By building an extension, converting the loft into another bedroom or an office or adding a conservatory, you can give a boost to the price of your home. If you have several bedrooms, creating another bathroom could also give you a good return on the investment and an increased level of comfort also. A survey by a reputed financial company recently revealed that the most popular home improvements were redecorating carried out by 66% of respondents, gardening (41%), new furnishings (30%), new wooden or laminated flooring (25%) and adding a new bathroom (24%).

Many home improvement projects can cost more than you anticipate, forcing you to borrow from the loan market. If you opt for an instalment based loan then it's easy to get carried away as you are assured that the repayment money will be available to you. Some lenders also cap your borrowing. If your project is expensive then you might be left short of money.

If you take out an exclusive home improvement loan then you should ensure that the loan amount is paid within the pre-agreed time period. To do this, you have to manage your budget much more effectively and access your cash at the time of requirement only. In case you spend less than your budget, there wont arise any need to borrow more money and pay more interest. And, if you go over budget, then you'll still have ready access to the money you need. You can link your home improvement loan with an existing mortgage package. It will help you in lowering interest rate and may be able to release equity to help fund your project.

Homeowner loans for renovation purposes combine great rates with refreshing levels of customer service. Getting a quote for these loans is easy and hassle-free, embodying clear instructions. You can apply for these loans online and get an instant decision. At the time of loan application, you have to choose how much you want to borrow - between 5,000 and 250,000 - and how long you want to take to repay your loan - anytime between 5 and 25 years.

The interest rates on home improvement loans are generally fixed. So, your repayments remain the same throughout the loan period, irrespective of the fluctuations in the UK financial market. Some lenders offer the opportunity of deferred payments for the first three months to make the loan plan more affordable.

Why Choosing a Bathtub is Like Getting Dressed

When a woman dresses for an evening out, she would never think of first choosing which earrings she will wear and then making the clothes fit around that choiceunless she intended wearing nothing else of course Neither would a man choose his necktie and try to make his clothes suit the tie, unless Its common sense that you choose the main item of clothing first, and then choose the accessories to match the outfit.

And yet when it comes to planning their bathroom, many people do the equivalent of choosing the earrings or necktie firstor rather they choose the outfit, the shoes, the accessories without giving a thought as to how they fit together and the total visual effect. They choose a bathtub, and a vanity, and a color for the walls without thinking of the total effect and then wonder why they feel disappointed with the end result.

But if we take a leaf from the book of common sense as applied to dressing for a night out, the job becomes so much easier. The trick is to think of the main focal point of the bathroomand for our purposes that main focal point is the bathtubfirst, and once that decision has been made plan the rest of the bathroom around it.

Think of the bathtub like an altar in a place of religious worship. It is the main place of attention, and the rest of the bathroom should kneel in worship So if you decide that a sunken, contemporary bath is for you, a bathtub with clean, straight lines, perhaps not a curve in sight, the rest of the bathroom should follow suit, with minimalist ironmongery, with perhaps a lot of shiny chrome and brushed steel. If you go for a vintage clawfoot bathtub with beautifully curved back made for reclining and soaking in hot water, then the rest of the bathroom should follow so think ornate finishes, possibly a vintage antique mirror on the vanity with gilded gold frame You get the idea. Get the main focal pointthe bathtubin there first and let the rest follow naturally.

If you do this, it will be like dressing properlychoose the outfit and then choosing the accessories is easy. Of course, you might want another item to be the focal point of your bathroom, but then its probably not worth calling it a bathroom If you want a real bathroom, then make the focal point that bathtub.

So when you come to plan that bathroom, think of yourself getting dressed. Never choose the earrings or necktie first. Choose the outfit and the accessories later. Unless the earrings or necktie are all youre going to be wearing of course

Environmental-Friendly Homes Using Natural Building Materials And Techniques

With todays inflated prices on energy and the urgent need to be more environmentally friendly, building a self-sustaining home that will save you money as well as your environment is on the rise. If you are considering building a new home, do check out the natural building materials available today. It will have a positive effect on your pocket and the environment.

There are nearly 20 types of natural building techniques used in home building today. Some of the most common techniques used are outlines below.

One of the most popular forms of natural building in America is the bale building. Straw-Bale Construction is the practice of taking baled straw stacks to create extra-insulated walls. Straw bales provide the ultimate in insulation, are lightweight, cost almost nothing and do not require many tools. Mixing straw with natural plaster provides homes the ability to breathe, something missing in our society today. HUD (Housing and Urban Development), Fannie Mae (a shareholder owned company, established to expand the flow of mortgage funds in all communities, at all times, under all economic conditions and to help lower the costs to buy a home) and Habitat for Humanity have approved the construction of bale buildings which are economical, healthy and insurable too.

You can say adobe style houses are built both by the rich and poor. Its because in the South these types of homes are built because the homeowners cannot afford anything better whereas in the Southwest, the rich build adobe homes. This type of housing made from sun-dried mud bricks, has been in use for centuries all over the world.

A mixture of clay and sand are used in the construction of adobe homes. Sometimes straw and manure are added. The clay mixture is poured into Molds and left to harden in the sun for days. They are then laid on a stone or concrete Foundation using traditional masonry techniques. Mud is the mortar of choice for adobe style homes, however concrete or lime also has a history of use. Because of the severe restrictions on adobe constructions, it is limited to the desert southwest.

Among the most self-sufficient homes built are earthship homes. Michael Reynolds of Solar Survival Architecture started earthship construction. An independent structure, created and sustained by Solar Energy and recycled materials, the walls of earthship homes were and still are created from soil-filled tires, which are excellent thermal conductors. Bottles, cans and other recyclables fill the gaps between the tires. The building is typically framed with localized wood and roofed metal that will collect rainwater. Optical upgrades include integrated wastewater treatment systems, photovoltaic electrical systems and solar hot water and heating. There have been many Earthships communities built in places like New Mexico and Arizona.

Another common method of building homes today are using recycled building materials, with the sole purpose of creating less waste. By using materials and objects that would otherwise end up as trash, you will not only build an affordable home but one that is earth-friendly as well.

Global warming is a threat that will affect generations to come. The atmosphere surrounding us that supports life is a God-given gift. It must be protected. We should be leaders in efforts to curb global warming, not resistant followers.

Storage Sheds The Un-Clutter Solution

A storage shed is a light structure (generally made of wood) in a back garden used for storage of tools, vehicles, or useful items and is very often used to pursue hobbies like gardening and light engineering. Storage sheds are available in a variety of designs and materials in the market.

Types of Storage Sheds Based on Material. The materials used for storage sheds are wood, plywood, vinyl, metal, steel and RubbermaiEDCd. The materials have various advantages and disadvantages. Wood is the preferred material as it gives an aesthetic appeal. However wood needs to be treated for ultraviolet protection every year and sometimes treatment is also given for protection against pests and borers. Cedar wood is preferred material. Particle wood and plywood are very popular for storage shed sidings. However they are least resistant to water as they get out of shape after repeated wetting and drying. Hence plywood should be avoided in places where it rains frequently.

Vinyl has the advantage of being maintenance free. However vinyl is lower on the visual attractiveness scale. Metal sidings include aluminum, which is light and when anodized gives a good look and lasts a long time. Steel sidings, though cheap, should be avoided as they rust easily. Metal sidings have the least appealing look. Vinyl coated steel has a long life and gives good strength. Rubbermaid and poly vinyl chloride sidings are maintenance free ,requiring no painting, no rust treatment and no rot or pest treatment. One thing that should be looked into while selecting siding material is that the siding material should match with the main building siding material. A different siding material may give a contrasting look to the storage shed.

Do It Yourself Kits Vs Professional Installation. Storage sheds can be professionally installed as well as self assembled. Usually for easy assembly, the parts are numbered in self-assembly type storage shed kits. Also assembly instructions are provided with storage-shed kits. Self-assembly may save money and can be a satisfying though difficult experience.

Sizes & Accessories. The usual sizes of storage sheds are, 12 X 24, 12 X 30, 12 X 10, 10 X 14, 10 X 8, 8 X 6 etc. It is better to opt for a double door. For those who want to keep light engineering machines, a good foundation is necessary. Other accessories that come with storage sheds are windows, shutters, weathervanes etc. Hooks and shelves increase the capacity of the storage shed by utilizing vertical space. The windows should be so designed that they match with the main building.

Building Codes and Laws. In various states there are laws on sheds like zoning ordinance, building codes, deed restrictions, building permits, siding materials etc. It is prudent to go through these before installing a storage shed.

Storage sheds are available in various shapes, colors, patterns and sizes. They can be customized to suit an individuals taste. Smaller sheds are called tool sheds. Larger sheds called barns are used to house vehicles, boats and other large items. The prices range from $300 to $4000 depending upon size, material and accessories in the storage shed.

The Heart of the Mentor - Drawing From Experiences

Those of us who have been mentored know that it takes an extraordinary person to touch and affect peoples lives in such a unique way. Mentors must be many things, but they must primarily be a person who draws everything there is to be gained from an experience. Experience teaches us wisdom, knowledge, morality, and human nature to name a few. But a mentor internalizes the feelings and emotions gained from lifes experiences and translates them into the words that can lead, guide, educate, and heal.

One may assume that experience and emotional learning occur naturally in everyone but this is not always true. How often do we go through the motions of life without ever really articulating the feelings we experience? It requires careful monitoring and a thorough memory to take the emotional lessons life teaches us and turn them into lessons for another. A mentor is a mentor long before they meet their partner or make a commitment. They are a lifelong interpreter of feelings associated with experience. It is more than learning from encounters. It is more than remembering encounters. It is reliving the encounter every time they share the experience.

When a mentor shares an experience they recapture the feelings they had at the time and put them into the context of the present. Sharing the feelings they had when they faced a challenge takes more than just retelling the events and time frames. To be genuine and authentic they must touch the actual feeling of challenge, with its fears and excitement, and put those feelings into words.

It is the authenticity of feeling that truly enriches the mentoring process. We have all had conversations where stories are told and walked away with only knowledge of a specific event. In mentoring we walk away with much more. The energy and authenticity of our mentors words are the elements that make mentoring far more than a conversation. They are the elements that inspire and motivate us. They are guidance with the energy to motivate us to take action and make changes.

When mentoring is part of the career process we have the chance to develop our lives with the knowledge and wisdom of anothers experience. When that knowledge and wisdom are shared with genuine feeling we dont just learnwe absorb. It is what allows us to choose a path, take a risk, and learn from our mistakes. It gives us the vigor to make these decisions and choices. It takes a lot of energy to live and grow in the business world and it is the lack of that energy that leads to apathy and ambivalence. More than seeking advice, seeking mentoring is reaching out for the power to control and influence our world.

You may wonder how you will know if someone is truly a mentor or just someone who is giving advice. Once you have met a mentor, the difference will become obvious. Your mentoring sessions will leave you motivated and intrigued, not fearful or apprehensive about decisions you are now faced with. The mentoring experience is a truly remarkable relationship and it is no wonder that so many professionals credit their success to mentoring. Some of the most influential and successful business people sought and received mentoring early in their careers and achieved incredible things.

All these things are possible because mentors mentor with their hearts. That vital and powerful part of them is what allows them to have such an impact on the lives of others. Sharing their hearts, with all its intrinsic hopes and dreams, gives them the authenticity to guide and enrich. When you meet a true mentor it is not hard to believe them because they have a consistency that one can trust and believe in. The emotions they share are consistent with the words and experiences they impart. When you find a mentor you have found a valuable treasure and the process deserves your efforts and respect. Future articles will cover how to be a good partner in mentoring and how mutual nurturing is essential to the process. Mentoring is such a complex concept that this article alone only touches the surface of such an exciting and beneficial process.
